What, asked a journalist, was his philosophy of dance? Morris’s predecessor, Maurice Béjart, had been a prodigious philosophiser, providing “30 pages of programme notes for every new dance.” But Morris’s answer ran to far fewer than 30 words: “I make it up and you watch it. Right up my alley! Will definitely be reading more Stevenson short stories and novels. The whole penny dreadful era is rich with moral dilemmas and supernatural symbolism. Couldn't get into that one at all, but the other three stories are excellent. Weir of Hermiston, an incomplete work-in-progress that was published after RLS's death, is the only dud of the bunch. ![]() Not sure if every edition is the same, but the other stories in this collection are The Body Snatcher, The Bottle Imp, Markheim, and Weir of Hermiston. Stevenson keeps it a crisp 70 pages that are all as tight as piano wire. ![]() A great premise is often bogged down by filler, but not here. The inner turmoil of good-versus-evil is delivered perfectly, creating unnerving dual sympathy (and horror) for man and monster. ![]() Few books have seeped into the global collective consciousness, but with this one I'm not at all surprised by its immortal status. I obviously knew the basic premise of Jekyll and Hyde but it still had me on the edge of my seat. It is an effective technique, spurring the reader onward when a chapter ends on a particularly tense and unresolved note. This tantalizing read alternates first-person chapters in the voice of Lily, a former student radical turned criminal defense lawyer, with chapters from an omniscient third-person perspective. Susan Isaacs, the accomplished author of Compromising Positions and Shining Through, is in fine form telling the story of Lily, her peculiar childhood and family, and her circuitous route to happiness in middle age. Tessa tries to reconcile with her father, though Hardin warns her against this idea, and ends up letting him stay at her and Hardin's shared apartment. Okay so, once again the plot of After We Fell is dramatic, but mainly showcases the fraught dynamic between Tessa and Hardin. And rather than being understanding, he turns to sabotage. While we don't know for sure if the films will exactly follow the plot of Todd's next two books in the series we reckon they're a pretty good road map. ![]() So now we're begging the question - what's going to happen in the next movies? ![]() ![]() ![]() Today it is easy for us to preserve food. It is tough to eat “as is” and requires you to dunk it in coffee or milk to soften up a bit. These ingredients are water, salt, and flour which was readily available during the old times. Hardtack is also very easy to make and only includes three ingredients. Moisture can cause spoilage, and this is why it needs to be removed out of the bread especially considering the long shelve life required by this staple food. Most of the moisture is drawn out of the hardtack making it very tough to eat. Hardtack also has other names which might include dog biscuits, worm castles, and molar breakers. Hardtack is also known to break teeth because of its hardness. This bread comes in the form of flat-bread and has a tough texture. This bread is handy for long sea voyages and proved to be a good choice because of its long shelve life. Hardtack is a survival based bread that almost does not have an expiry date. I am also going to show you several ways on how you can consume this food. If you are into the history of hardtack, then I will also cover that aspect as well. ![]() ![]() ![]() And, surprise: they really like kissing each other! The rest of Bet Me is one very long, deliciously frustrated (and unconsummated) journey towards happily ever after. They start out hating each other, but Cal gets jealous when he sees Min eating a doughnut and decides he want her to look at him like she looks at doughnuts. The highlight for me is definitely, and obviously, Cal and Min’s relationship. Basically, Jennifer Crusie starts out with a premise that seems highly unpromising, and then twists the crap out of it to create a funny and tension-filled novel that was, for me, absolutely unputdownable. Second, there’s not actually…a bet it’s kind of all a big misunderstanding. ![]() First, the love interest, Cal, is very attracted to Min’s “unattractive qualities” (namely her curves) and he’s extremely supportive and kind. Not okay.Įxcept…that’s not really what happens in Bet Me. Too…condescending and douchey on the part of the male love interest. Attractive man-dude makes a bet that he can take home a random woman and have sex with her? Ew, gross. This sort of doesn’t seem like much of a “Renae book”. ![]() ![]() ![]() This crew includes favorite local performers such as Ben Dibble, Melissa Joy Hart, and Fran Prisco. ![]() The ensemble plays homeless residents of Hooverville in one scene, elegant servants in the next, then national politicians.
